SPECIAL KINDNESS IN PACKAGES JOINS THE AMERICA SUPPORTS YOU TEAM
Local group adds their support for the troops to Department of Defense program

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Special Kindness In Packages (SKIP) announced today that it has officially joined America Supports You, an ongoing, nationwide Department of Defense program to showcase and communicate America’s support for the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. SKIPis a Massachusetts-based, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Through fundraisers, community involvement, donations and grants, SKIP provides our troops with care packages filled with letters and other items of necessity and enjoyment.

“We are thrilled to welcome Special Kindness in Packages to the America Supports You team,” said Allison Barber, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. “Their dedication to our service members is truly inspiring, and we are so happy to work with them as they continue to do great things for our troops.”

To date, SKIP has shipped more than 3, 800 lbs. in care packages overseas while organizing community events and participating in various parades and ceremonies at home. Some of SKIP’s more noteworthy activities in 2006 included participation in the Veterans Day Ceremony and organizing community Veteran Park clean-up efforts in Brockton, Mass., designing a float and participating in the Hanson, Mass., Memorial Day Parade, and participating in the Homefront Heroes Rally at the Rock in Plymouth, Mass.  Currently, SKIPis conducting a $10k drive through their Internet site (www.specialkindness.org) in hopes of providing our troops with more special request items. Working with America Supports You in the future, SKIP hopes to better serve our troops and find interesting and innovative ways for communities across the country to become involved with their efforts.

“Special Kindness In Packages is honored to be a part of America Supports You, and is proud to support the members of America’s Armed Forces,” said Skip Spoerke, Vice President of Special Kindness In Packages.  “It is because of these heroes that we are Americans, living free, and remaining strong.  Yet, according to our service members, sometimes the best feeling for them is receiving a letter that contains only two words: ‘Thank you.’  That’s why we do this.”

SKIP is now one of almost 250 non-profit organizations that have joined America Supports You to enhance their local services to our active duty military members, veterans and their families.  America Supports You provides a forum for team members to network and communicate with one another in order to share information and pool their resources.
